Freeburg High School Additions & Renovations
Location: Freeburg, IL | Owner: Freeburg CHSD #77 | Architect: FGM Architects, Inc.
The District identified a need for additional lab and classroom space for High School programs after enrollment growth and infrastructure concerns. Freeburg CUSD #77, as a repeat client, returned to Poettker Construction as their trusted advocate to work alongside the district architect to ensure these successful projects.
This campus improvement project entails a new 18,500-SF second-story classroom addition over the existing single-story classroom wing constructed by Poettker in the late 1990s. Poettker’s construction management professionals worked extensively with the District and the lead design firm to create a proactive approach to limit the impact to school operations. The project was phased and scheduled to maximize construction while students were on summer break.
Key project components included:
- First-floor structural bracing enhancements to support the 2nd story addition;
- STEM learning laboratories for science, art, and computers;
- New hydraulic elevator;
- Full interior renovations: walls, flooring, ceilings, finishes
- New mechanical, electric, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation systems for the new addition to connect with the existing
The Poettker team did an amazing job during our recent second floor construction project. The second floor construction project was a unique challenge as the first floor renovation and the second floor construction needed to be completed in a short window so the first floor could be used for classes. Poettker’s team kept the project moving so it finished on time and under budget. We were so impressed with their work that our Board wanted Poettker to manage our upcoming renovation project which also brings certain timeline constraints. We’re excited to be working with the Poettker team again on this project.
