Every spring, the editors of Building Design+Construction survey the nation’s largest architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) firms to identify the most prominent design and construction firms across 25 building sectors and specialty categories. Dubbed “Giants 400,” the program currently recognizes over 500 AEC Giants.

Now in its 48th year, the annual BD+C Giants list serves as the go-to resource for industry professionals to size up the competition. Revenue figures shared by each respective firm offer a quick glimpse at the building design and construction landscape today.

No. 107 Top Contractor

With an incredible $393 million earned revenue in 2023, Poettker Construction earned the 107th spot on BD+C’s list of Top 150 Contractors for 2024. That’s a $86 million increase over 2022. Poettker Construction provides construction management, design/build, general contracting, and self-perform services to distribution & warehouse, federal & defense, healthcare, PK-12 education, higher education, industrial & manufacturing, senior living & hospitality, retail, and utility & infrastructure sectors across 28 states.

No. 25 Top Retail Construction Firm

Poettker Construction achieved the No. 25 spot on BD+C’s list of the Top 90 Retail Construction Firms. The achievement recognizes the nation’s largest retail building contractors and construction management (CM) firms of 2024.

No. 29 Construction Management Firm

Poettker Construction earned the impressive 29th ranking on BD+C’s Top 80 Construction Management Firms for 2024. This category honors the nation’s largest construction management (as agent) and program/project management firms for nonresidential buildings and multifamily housing work. Poettker’s 29th ranking is a staggering 57 places better than its No. 86 ranking of 2023.

No. 53 K-12 School Construction Firm

On BD+C’s K-12 School Construction Firms for 2024 list, Poettker Construction earned the No. 53 spot with $48 million in annual revenue. Poettker’s notable 2024 K-12 school projects include the six-year bond program with Parkway North High School, $80 million Cahokia High School, and 104,200 SF Columbia High School.

No. 73 University Building Construction Firm

Poettker Construction achieved the No. 73 spot on BD+C’s Top 100 University Building Construction Firms for 2024. The list ranks the nation’s largest university sector contractors and construction management firms. In 2024, Poettker provided design-build services for SIUE’s $105 million Health Science Building, served as the General Contractor on the 25,000 SF USDA-ARS Plant Genetics Research Unit Office & Laboratory, and delivered Construction Management services for Kaskaskia College’s new 1,400-seat gymnasium.

No. 119 Top Healthcare Facility Construction Firm

At 119, Poettker Construction earned a spot on BD+C’s Top 150 Healthcare Facility Construction Firms in the country. Poettker was recently awarded the contract for the Alton Mental Health Center’s Willow Building Renovation, and the company completed work on the 26,000 SF, two-story Memorial Hospital Medical Office Building in Chester, IL earlier this year.

No. 124 Top Office Building Construction Firm

Poettker Construction claimed the No. 124 spot on BD+C’s Top 150 Office Building Construction Firms for 2024, which recognizes the nation’s largest office building sector contractors and construction management (CM) firms of the year.
